Children's Knee Condition

Paediatric Knee Problems

Paediatric knee problems refer to a range of conditions that affect the natural function of the knee in children and adolescents. Unlike adults who have no further growth, children experience many changes to their lower limbs as they develop and grow, and these changes can make them susceptible to knee conditions. These include malalignment issues as well as injury-based issues such as a torn meniscus, patella instability and osteochondritis dissecans (OCD). These can cause knee pain, limited range of motion and difficulty with everyday activities such as walking, running and playing sports.

Treatment to minimise knee pain and restore function for children varies depending on the specific condition. Physiotherapy and knee braces are the most common treatments, however, surgery may be necessary for more severe cases. With appropriate treatment, your child can return to normal activities and avoid further complications.
