Paediatric Foot and Ankle Conditions

Paediatric foot and ankle conditions refer to issues affecting the shape, structure or connection between the bones in the foot or ankle of infants, children and adolescents.

Some of the most common childhood foot and ankle conditions include clubfoot (TEV or also known as Talipes Equinovarus), tarsal coalitions and painful flat feet. These conditions can be present at birth (congenital), develop later in childhood or be caused by trauma and injury.

Symptoms for foot and ankle conditions can vary widely depending on the specific condition and the severity of the condition. If your child is experiencing symptoms such as difficulty walking, stiffness in the foot or ankle, an abnormal walking pattern or feet that appear to be turned inward, it is important to seek medical attention as early diagnosis and treatment can be crucial.

Treatment may be required to restore mobility and can involve physiotherapy, orthotics, casting or bracing, and in severe cases, surgery.
